What We Get Wrong About Autism
April is Autism Acceptance Month, and we’re here to clear up some seriously outdated beliefs. If you were taught that autism is scary, sad, or something to be “fixed,” this is your sign to unlearn and relearn with us.
Here are a few truths we need to normalize:
Autism is not caused by vaccines. That myth? It was started by a fraudulent study and has been debunked by every major health org on the planet.
Being autistic doesn’t mean someone lacks empathy. Actually, many autistic folks report feeling emotions deeply - even too deeply.
Autism is largely genetic, not the result of parenting, screen time, or dietary choices.
Most autistic people don’t want a cure. They want acceptance, accommodations, and the chance to live authentically.
TL;DR:
Autistic people aren’t broken - the world just wasn’t built with them in mind. Let’s change that
